Thread: First day at HydroCanna

Greetings. Just thought I'd leave a very quick message here. Today is my first time through these forums, looking for some information on cultivation. I'm going to be purchasing some grow boxes from SuperBloomerz.com in Phoenix soon, but need lots of information regarding organic, indoor cultivation.

Any information anyone could provide on growing out of these boxes would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey prophet. Welcome to HC. Just curious, have you considered making your own grow box? I just checked out the website you were talking about, those boxes are nice, but they seem quite more pricey than what (in my opinion ) they are really worth. I don't know what you're working with, but even the small little one there was 1000. DAMN. LOL. these boxes can be made out of pretty much anything. I am currently in the process of making one out of a mini fridge because it is a good size for me, it is insulated, its extremely reflective, has shelves for convenience ( can store nutes, notebooks, meters, ect) and has it's own power supply and seals. I am currently dormant on my build though due to lack of funds, lol. But in the end it should cost under 200 ( not counting the bulb itself). Just to give an idea where self built could put you price wise. And glad to see another grower growing stealthy. Are you by any chance growing in DWC? and these forums are great, if you do decide to build, there is a lot of info in the DIY section under indoor. Regardless of what your grow takes place in, I'll probably be following it and I wish you all the best.

the biggest issue growing in small spaces is gonna be heat. make sure to plan out some good venting. an intake and exhaust are super important, without moving the hot air out quickly your plants will suffer bad. i just saw a DIY full size refridgerator grow cabnet that was pretty damn impressive. i forget what site but im sure you can google and find it lol

King you talking bout the refridginator? I saw that one on YouTube and it kinda motivated me for my grow. My fridge is 29"highX17"wideX14"deep on the inside, so more compacted than a full fridge. But it'll be running CFL instead of those HPS and metal halide and what not, but I still plan on having an intake and export of air w/ 2 CPU fans I scrapped from an old pos I had laying around. Do you think that'll be enough circulation? I was also planning on a small extra fan for inside just to move the air around an about.

Mainly my reason for going with something like SuperBloomerz, is that it is fully automated. I'm working two jobs right now, and will be for probably another year. I don't have time to do everything associated with having a self made box, which requires my daily/constant attention. With SB, I can set it, and open it in a couple of days to check water and nutrients. Otherwise, it will maintain temp, co2, humidity, and everything that needs to be closely watched. It's sealed off so no worries with mites or other infestations, and everything is properly monitored to keep it at your settings. I have the perfect places for these, and although very expensive, to me seem well worth the money.

My two other primary needs are solved by these boxes. The ability to move them if need be with simplicity, and the whole.. small-free bit. I can't have my neighbors being able to smell my crop outside.

However, something that can be built like that wouldn't be so bad. Part of the process is it being my first stab at it, and I don't have the money to fail, or the knowledge to succeed.

What would you say are the benefits (other then $ of course) of going with something like what you are asking of.. and what I'm considering. (I'm not sure what you meant by asking if i was growing in DWC... but I'll be cultivating in Southern Arizona).

Well it seems for your situation you've probably made the right choice. You'll probably have less possibilities for variables ( in a good way ). I guess if you can afford it than theres no reason not to go for it. I've never actually seen anybody use one of those premade grow boxes, only advertisements. So I'll be looking forward to following your grow and seein how it works for ya. And DWC means deep water culture, it's a form of hydroponics and I was asking because it's a very common and simple way to grow inside a grow box. But I saw that you said you were doing organic. And as for the pros & cons of self built grow box I guess the pros are
- built to your own specifications
- save a few hundred bucks
- you choose methods of lighting, air circulation, and regulation to what works best for you
- feel good about creating and personalizing something
- recycles old shit.
- nobody has to know about it

And as for the cons
- could fail if built incorrectly
-if parts are messed up whole system could fail
- it takes the time to put it together
- no chance of of warranty
- could become fire hazard.

Sure, I can totally see where you are coming from. I don't have the mechanical know-how, or the time to build something like that myself... Nor do I have the $ for this right now, but I'm working on that right now. I have so much to learn in terms of growing this way, and nutrients and temperatures and what not, it's all pretty overwhelming. Will probably be at least another month or so before I'm ready to make the trip to Tucson, but we'll see what happens. I'll keep updated on here, there is A LOT to read.

Other then the CannaBible... do you have any other suggestions on growing with a grow box?

Hmm.. I don't have experience with the grow boxes because mine isnt built yet. I guess the main suggestions I could give are to make sure the electrical level stays higher than water (if water is stored inside), keep a notebook inside w/ any information you find noteable, and if you're going for stealth, rresist the urge to let ANYBODY know it exist. This site is safe of course, but your friends, family, your girl (or boy..) don't even tell your imaginary friends. I believe that when all is boiled down, the only man you can trust is a dead man.

First 100 pages of the cannabible? Is it good? I've never seen it but I live in Virginia so there's no way in hell I'd order it to my house from a website. And unfortunately there is very little cannabis related litterature in the libraries around here. Thank god for youtube and HC though. haha.

I found a likn to a place I could download it on here, and then also bought mysefl a physical copy from Amazon.com (CannaBible, 2nd and 3rd) for 12$ total.
