Ok so let's get some serious feedback on which is a better light source and why. What's the best quality brands that you've tested over the years.

    hps is hid bro-
high intensity discharge HID..these lamps include metal halide (MH) and high pressure sodium(HPS) as well as (CMH) ceramic Metal Halide-
    most places dont carry CMH-
just MH and HPS but they are both high intensity discharge lamps-

if your looking for a good little setup get a 600w digital ballast..get a quantum the first time around and you will love it!
digital ballast can run both hps and mh bulbs and cover your small tent really good-
i rec air cooled or cool tube reflector with that ballast-

your metal halides are your veg lighting and spectrum of about 4000K to 6500 kelvin-
your HPS or high pressure sodium lamps are best used for the flowering cycle and have a kelvin spectrum range of about 2700-3500 k

you can use an hps for both veg and flower, but a mh is not so great for flowering unless combined with hps..much like you would cfls or an led- it acts better as spectrum lighting when flowering-

    you cant muhahaha!
its not a stupid question bro-
there are no stupid questions.... only stupid people who never ask questions lol
    imho..

we all have to start somewhere- most folks now days use cfls and graduate up the scale-
dont let anything stop you from asking whats on your mind man-
shit the best way to learn, is to fuck up, ask questions and make mistakes alot! more mistakes! the more lessons learned in the end-
